Geek.com reports Apple “hit a milestone” on Oct. 16, hitting a grand and growing total of 300,000 apps available for the iPad. The site does note conflicting numbers from several sources, but geek.com says Mobclix puts the number at the 300K point.
Other estimates of total apps to date range from 225,000 to 325,000.
Mobclix breaks out the apps by category in an interesting interactive chart. No matter the time frame chosen in the chart, two categories hold the lead: Books and games.
The chart shows some 94,000 apps are free, compared to 207,000 for sale.
